ANOTHER UNKNOWN RELATIVE

picturesbyclaudia 278

This is also an unknown from my fathers album.  The dresses appear to be from sometime about 1920.  I have not a clue on who they are. They look like members of a wedding party.

My computer is still being repaired and will soon be cleaned and reinstalled.    I am so happy that all my files are backed up and   I do it on a regular basis.

HAVEN’T POSTED LATELY

picturesbyclaudia 282

My computer is being repaired and along with the file with my Auction Photos.  This is a photo from my family collection of my fathers side of the family.  He is a WW1 soldier with no name and I do not know anything about him.   The only WW1 soldier that I came across is Owen Mulroy, who was the son of my great grandfathers (Thomas Dowd) sister Catherine Dowd Mulroy.   He died in 1918 from infection of war wounds.   Owen is a possible candidate, but where did the photo come from and what is the number 2648 on the bottom of the picture?

WHAT A HAPPY BABY

8-29-2011 4;24;12 PM

I posted this picture and wondered what or who was sitting on the left side of the photo.   I blew it up and I could see what appeared to be dog legs.   It seems to me that the dog moved it head at the time the shutter clicked and his head is blurry.   Mothers hair style is that of the Gibson Girl Era.

MOM’S COUSIN FROM CHICAGO

9-14-2011 1;22;14 PM9-14-2011 1;23;28 PM

I find this an interesting photo.  I am wondering about what year it was taken.   I would like to see the rest of the dress and the locket.

THEY ARE NO LONGER LOST, I HAVE SENT THEM ON THEIR WAY

Just a quick note to update. Earlier, when I found the photos, I did a search for Henry and Calisa Steinke.  They were the first picture posted when I started this blog.   I found the couple on a tree on Ancestry.   I wrote to the trees owner and after a few emails I have sent them on their way.

I got a note from him and the family, they were excited, especially his mother in law, because she was able to identify  several members of her family.  He said he will keep in touch and give me the final results.   It is really good  to make someones family history with pictures that were found.

I told him that I think that anyone with an interest and working knowledge of Genealogy, would look and hope to find the family for the photos.

MOTHER AND CHILD

8-29-2011 4;22;26 PM

I did a search for the Elite Photography Studio but did not find one is Des Moines, IA.    What I liked was the  sleeve on her dress.  I can not tell if it a Leg O Mutton sleeve or some variation.  It could be a covering of sleeve with a little cape?   Leg O Mutton sleeves appeared in the mid 1890’s and were gone about 1906.  The bodice is fancy and the skirt is plain.

THAT’S SOME HAT…

9-14-2011 4;43;57 PM

This picture was unusual because it was completely cut out from whatever was the original.  Now I wonder what else, or whom was there and why did the remove this lady?

UP ON A TREE

8-29-2011 4;09;29 PM

This photo was very faded and it took a bit of effort to get it viewable.  I am wondering

if they were farmers wives.

THIS PHOTO INTERESTED ME BECAUSE…..

8-29-2011 4;13;20 PM

It appears to be an old time version of photo shop…This mans face appears to be younger

than the suit and his head is proportionally larger than the body.

they are sisters.

OLD FAMILY PORTRAIT

8-29-2011 4;29;05 PM

This is also one of the older portraits in the box.  She is very

beautiful and he quite handsome.  The children are quite cute

OLD TIN TYPE PHOTO

8-29-2011 5;09;26 PM

This seems to be the oldest photo in the box.    It is a picture of a young girl and on the

original the photo is very dark and hard to identify.    With my basic software I was able to

scan it and lighten it considerably.

I have to read more about old photos to be able to pin point the date of this photo.

MY FIRST PHOTO AND WHAT GOT ME INTERESTED

8-29-2011 3;18;03 PM

Who was this couple and why did they appeal  to me?

The answer was on the back of the card.   It listed a name of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Steinke, and below was her name Calisa.    I searched Ancestry and found the couple in Dark, Ohio.  This was easy due to her name.   I also found a man who has the same photo on his blog.  After I get some more of the photos scanned I will contact him and inform him of what I have found.  Perhaps he would be interested in all the photos.

I am thinking he will be because he has a lot of photo and documents on his blog.

WHAT WAS THE REASON FOR THIS BLOG

On Sunday my husband Chuck went to an auction.   He bought a small chest in the hopes of taking it to my daughter Emily's home.   She has been working since last December and we have been looking for good buys to fill up a Victorian house.  When he was ready to leave I arrived with the bigger car in order to put in the purchase.
He had a large box and he said to me that it came with the furniture.

What to my surprise it was a collection of photographs.   As genealogist we all know we would NEVER throw away old photographs.  In fact we were most likely to try to find the family of which they may belong.

I looked through the box and much to my surprise there were some that appeared to have been taken in the 1800's and early 1900's.   The most recent, aside of a few children school pictures, seem to have ended in the 1950's.

So I am in the process of scanning and posting the photographs.
